Martin and Christina quietly eloped on a beautiful Saturday evening in April. I’m so happy that I was able to be a part of their special day.
I met Christina almost 2 weeks prior to her wedding day. She’s local to Memphis and has been with her now husband, Martin, for several years. Martin’s family resides in Slovakia, where he is originally from, so planning a big ceremony proved to be especially challenging. The couple decided they wanted to quietly go ahead and get married and have a reception later when everyone could attend.
I was so excited that she chose me to be a part of her special day and we talked for quite awhile about what to expect from her time with me, flowers, weather, hair, and other small details. We closely monitored the weather and kept our fingers crossed for no rain.
The couple’s story began at Shelby Farms and it was only suitable to get married there. Both are dog lovers and met for their first date at the dog park in Shelby Farms. For the ceremony they picked an open field not far from the park and decided it was the perfect spot to exchange their vows. The really cool thing about that particular spot is that if you look at it from a satellite image you’ll see that the field is actually shaped in a heart. How many people can say that about the spot they get married in?
As we walked along the path to the field Martin told me that before he met Christina he used to bring his dog to that spot and sit with him, just kind of taking in the scenery and admiring the quiet. I could tell they were both a bit nervous and excited about the secret ceremony about to take place.
I remember as they were putting their bags down and getting their flowers ready Martin asked if she was ready. I saw this huge smile spread across her face as she nodded and said “I don’t care about anything else, I just want to be your wife.” I think too often couples get caught up in the hoopla of planning a wedding, and they forget what the day is really about. It’s about love and vowing to spend the rest of your life with the person who completes your soul. My heart exploded with joy when I heard her say that Martin.
At about 5:30pm they exchanged vows under a clear blue sky and radiating sunlight.
Big Smiles and Quiet Moments
After the ceremony we took advantage of the amazing sunset that shed light through the tall grass and surrounding trees. The couple danced quietly underneath the branches of a lone tree in the middle of the field. There was no music playing, but when you’re in love you don’t really need it. As the last rays of light disappeared behind the trees Martin dipped his bride and kissed her. I could feel her smile radiating from a hundred yards away.
Congratulations you two. Thank you for having me be a part of your special day!
